Still Water
Nothing is softer or more flexible than
water, yet nothing can resist it. — Lao Tzu
Growing up on Aruba next to the sea, water became my life-long friend. It’s infinite movements, colors, smells, sounds, temperatures, powers – are magical. In an effort to bring water’s magic into my photography, I began this series in 2019, dramatically slowing the effect of the movement of water, tree limbs, and shrubs in nearby Texas Lakes. Taken with a Hasselblad film camera, these images explore the outcome of long exposures, e.g. leaving the camera shutter open from anywhere between thirty seconds and seven minutes, on Cypress Trees and detritus found in and around lakes. Can Still Water still the mind? Silver gelatin prints are available for purchase (see contact page).
